How to control personal injury, property damage or environmental incident
- Plan the route, access point and set-up area before arrival, including overhead services, ground conditions and traffic.
- Sign in with the site contact on arrival, and get briefed on site rules, hazards and emergency arrangements.
- Walk the set-up area before positioning vehicles or equipment, checking for buried services, soft ground and drains.
- Use a spotter when reversing or manoeuvring into position, and set up barriers or cones to keep the public clear.
- Carry a spill kit and protect nearby drains before unloading fuel, chemicals or materials that could escape.
Typical controls, most effective first. Your SWMS sets the controls for your own job and site.
