How to control mobile plant and vehicles
Separate people from vehicles and mobile plant with physical barriers, separate routes and designated pedestrian walkways.
Prepare a traffic management plan showing site routes, loading areas, parking and one-way systems that reduce reversing.
Fit reversing cameras, proximity sensors, flashing lights and reversing alarms, and keep mirrors and windows clean.
Use trained spotters with agreed signals when plant reverses or works near people.
Make sure operators hold the right licence or competency for the plant, complete pre-start checks and wear seatbelts.
Wear high-visibility clothing, and stay out of operators' blind spots unless you have made eye contact.
Typical controls, most effective first. Your SWMS sets the controls for your own job and site.
