The Workplace Traffic Management Plan is for any workplace with vehicle traffic, pedestrians or mobile plant operations. It sets out clear procedures to keep everyone safe and minimise the risk of costly accidents, and addresses the safety challenges of warehouses and similar worksites where traffic flow is a key concern.
It sets out a traffic management policy, the responsibilities of the organisation, supervisors and workers, and procedures for risk assessment, vehicle movements, parking areas, reversing vehicles, overhead powerlines, temporary traffic control, powered mobile plant and uncontrolled vehicle movement.
A TMP template records the workplace details, site maps, restricted work hours and speed limits, vehicle and mobile plant rules, parking, courier and delivery drop-off points, loading and unloading areas, forklift operation, damage to services and working near powerlines. A TMP checklist and a traffic management risk assessment form, with its risk matrix, complete it.
It suits large warehouses and small and medium-sized worksites, and helps contractors, warehouse managers, safety officers and compliance teams manage traffic. It is part of the Health and Safety Manual, whose documents refer to each other.
